Can I Get Hypnotherapy Online or Do I Need In-Person?

By Shahin Gurbanov, certified hypnotherapist

Hypnotherapy

You can have hypnotherapy either way. Most of my sessions are by video, and I also see patients in person at my practice at 165 Borough High Street, London. The best choice is the one in which you can relax most easily.

How a session by video works

We meet on a video call. We start with the same conversation about what you want to change, and then I guide you into hypnosis with my voice while you sit or lie comfortably at home. You need a phone, tablet or computer and a steady internet connection, and nothing else.

A few simple steps help a session by video go well:

  1. Choose a quiet, private room where you will not be disturbed.
  2. Use headphones if you can, so that you hear clearly.
  3. Silence your phone and tell the people you live with not to interrupt.
  4. Sit or lie somewhere comfortable, and keep a blanket nearby if you tend to feel cool.
  5. Test your connection a few minutes beforehand.
  6. Leave some quiet time afterwards, rather than going straight back to work.

How a session in person works

If you prefer to meet face to face, I see patients at 165 Borough High Street, London. Some people like to leave their usual surroundings for the session, and others do not have a private, quiet space at home. Travelling to the practice also gives you a clear start and end to the session.

Who may prefer a session by video

  1. People who live outside London or far from the practice.
  2. People with a busy day, who save the travel time.
  3. People who find it hard to leave their home, for example because of anxiety, health or mobility.
  4. People who feel most relaxed in their own space.

Who may prefer a session in person

  1. People who like face-to-face contact.
  2. People with no private, quiet room at home.
  3. People who find video calls tiring or distracting, or whose connection is unreliable.
  4. People who like to keep the session separate from home life.

Is one better than the other?

Neither is better for everyone. What matters is that you can relax, hear clearly and will not be interrupted. If you are unsure, tell me at the free consultation, which is usually held by video, and we can decide together what suits you.

Hypnotherapy is not a substitute for medical care. If you have a health condition, please keep working with your GP.

If you would like to start, you can arrange a free consultation from the home page and tell me which you prefer.

I am Shahin Gurbanov, and I offer both, so that you can choose what feels comfortable.
