How Many Hypnotherapy Sessions Do I Need?
By Shahin Gurbanov, certified hypnotherapist

There is no fixed number. Many of my patients notice a change after the first session, and how many sessions you need depends on you, on what you want to change and on how your subconscious mind responds. I never promise a number in advance.
What decides how many sessions you need?
Two people with the same problem can need a different number of sessions. These are the things that usually make the difference:
- What you want to change. A single habit is a different task from a pattern that shows up in several parts of your life.
- How long it has been there. Something you have lived with for many years can have more layers than something that began recently.
- How you respond. People respond to hypnosis at different speeds, and I work at the pace your subconscious mind sets.
- How much you want the change. Hypnotherapy works with you, not on you, so your own commitment matters.
- What is happening in your life. Stress, health and family circumstances can all affect how quickly you move forward.
What happens in the first session
My first session usually lasts between one and two hours, and the length varies from person to person. Before it, we have a free consultation, where we talk about what you want to change and what is realistic for you.
Is one session ever enough?
For some patients, yes. Many notice a change after the first session, and some find that it is all they need. Others choose to continue. I would rather you decide that after the session than before it.
What further sessions cost
The first session is currently £199 or £249, depending on what you want help with, and each further session is £100.
Questions to ask any hypnotherapist about the number of sessions
- How do you decide how many sessions I may need?
- Do you plan a fixed course before you have met me?
- What happens if I need fewer sessions than planned?
- What does each further session cost?
Be wary of anyone who promises a specific number of sessions or a certain result before they have understood your situation. A clear, honest explanation is a better sign than a confident promise.
How will I know whether I need more?
After your first session, notice what changes over the following days: how you feel, how you react to the situations that used to trouble you, and whether the habit or fear still has the same hold on you. If something has changed and you feel satisfied, you may not need anything more. If you would like further support, we can talk about it.
Hypnotherapy is not a substitute for medical care. If your symptoms continue or worry you, please speak to your GP.
The easiest first step is a free consultation: you can arrange one from the home page and ask me how many sessions your situation may need.
